ESOL Literacy Courses

The ESOL Literacy Courses teach English language and skills to help adults settle in New Zealand and lay the foundations for further education and employment.

ESOL Literacy Programme
2 For adult beginner learners, with entry points at 4 levels.
2 The levels range from complete beginner, including those who cannot read and write in their first language, to post beginner.
1 The classes are 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.
1 No classes during school holidays.

Playgroup English Course
2 For mothers and their pre-kindergarten children.
2 Learn English and teach it to your child.
1 Meets 2 mornings a week.
1 No classes during school holidays.

To enrol:

2 Fill in the application form.
2 Then we make an appointment.
1 At the appointment a teacher will ask you about your English and your long-term goals.
1 After the appointment we tell you when you can start. Sometimes you can start imediately. Sometimes you have to wait.
2 If our classes aren't right for you, we will tell you about other places you can study English.

Employment Support Service

The employment support team helps migrants and refugees to make career choicess and find employment.

For non-English background employment seekers:
1 Professionals
1 Skilled workers
1 Unskilled workers
1 People with little or no work experience

We help:
1 Develop pathways
1 Write CVs
1 Practice interview skills
1 Learn how to job-search
1 Learn about work-place customs and expectations
1 Understand the particular job requirements
1 Resolve any concerns during the first 6 months in the job.

If appropriate, we:
1 contact prospective employers ourselves
1 refer clients to further study or training.

1 Naenae Work and Income Office, 2 Vogel St, Naenae

ESOL Assessment and Access

The ESOL advisors help people decide how to meet their English language needs through an in-depth interview and follow-up support if required.

At the interview, the advisor will help you:
1 Find out your strengths and weaknesses in English
1 Discover strategies for learning a language as an adult
1 Identify your study and employment goals
1 Find out about the courses that are available

This service also contributes to the settlement strategies and provider networks in Wellington region.
